So much fun! Martin and I had a cookie jar date tonight! Before I tell you about it, let me tell you that Martin went back to work today. There are no students until the middle of the month, so the instructors just get their lessons in place and there is not any real physical activity. He was very nervous, because when he left for Christmas break, they were harrassing him about going back into his old classroom where he got sick, and continues to get ill whenever he is in that environment. They have threatened to fire him if he does not, and he keeps asking for another classroom where he can tolerate the environment. He expected to get notice of termination today, but nothing happened. On top of that, we are going on Friday to the doctor to see when the proceedure can be done to try to open his artery in his heart. He doesn't need any stress, that's for sure, and he is in huge stress at work, waiting for the ax to fall.
I called him several times today to check on him, and he assured me that he was okay. I was still concerned though. Anyway, when he got home, I asked him what he did all day. He told me that he did some work on his curriculum, and then asked me to come into the computer room because he wanted to show me something. We sat down together, and he surprised me by pulling up the ebay site. He typed in cookie jars, and said he wanted to look at cookie jars with me. He told me he had seen one at work today, and wondered if I would like it. I was so tickled, the two of us, in front of the computer, looking at cookie jars. When he saw one he liked, he would point it out, and I would do the same. Since collectable cookie jars are expensive, we just had fun saying that one day we could get one like this one or that one. We sat like that for over an hour, and then he stopped, and pointed out the one he really liked. It was "rosie the robot" from the jetsons. She is so cute, carrying a tray of cookies, and is usually quite pricey, but this particular one was only 33.00. I had mentioned before that I wanted one like that, as my favorite cookie jars are those that bring back memories for me. We put her on the "watch" list, meaning that we can watch her for the next 4 days, or until the auction is over, checking on the price increase as the bids come in. So far, there are no bids on her, and hopefully she won't go up very much. I think it is so sweet of Martin to indulge me in my hobby- it is so wonderful to sit together and enjoy all the cookie jars. To be honest, at this time, there are over 17,000 listed on ebay. Of course I can't see all of them, so here is my method to keep up with the listings. Since I have been doing this for so long, I only have to check out the newly listed ones each day. Usually, that is about 150 or more, but it goes quickly, because I know what I am looking for. When I see one on the list that I like, I put it on watch, and keep track of it. Sometimes I bid low, but usually get outbid because I won't go very high. Every now and then, I win with a really low bid, and that makes it even better. Recently, I got a Big Bird cookie jar for only 8.00. He will got with my cookie monster that I got for a low bid some time back. It is very theraputic for me, to be able to "cookie jar window shop" and really special when my honey does it with me.
Only a few more days until we can find out if they can help him. I know they will, I really do. The fear is gone, and I have given up the business of thinking the worst. Everyone of you can tell me, "See, you worried for nothing!" and I will love you for it. I will let you know about rosie the robot, maybe she will join my cookie jar family!
